Security Officer - K9 Handler

A K9 handler must be well-trained in surveillance and dealing with perpetrators, while utilizing a patrol dog. The ideal candidate will inspire respect and authority as well as possess a high level of observation and dog handling skills.

The goal is to help the company in maintaining excellent working conditions by keeping facilities safe and problem-free.

Use of a Patrol dog

The use of a patrol dog provides a higher level of protection to the client as well as the dog handler.

Patrol dog’s acts as a pre-warning to potential criminals.

Patrol dogs are very effective in the tracking and arresting of suspects.

Dog handlers must act responsible when a patrol dog is used to apprehend a suspect.

No excessive force may be used to apprehend a suspect.

If a suspect doesn’t resist, a dog may not be used.

When a suspect resists arrest or tries to flee, a dog may be used until the circumstances change or the suspect is under control.

When a dog was used to arrest a suspect, the National Control Room and TSU management must be informed immediately.

The SAPS must also be contacted so that the arrested person can be handed over to them for detention and the necessary statements can be provided.

If the suspect sustained serious injuries, first aid must be applied.

If need be, an ambulance must be contacted.

A detailed OB entry must be made of the incident.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PSIRA Grade A certificate - registered and up to date
  • Grade 10 or higher
  • DH1 and DH2 Qualification
  • Have a passion to work with dogs
  • Communicate well in English - written and verbal
  • Clear criminal record
  • Must live in or around the Johannesburg area
